POKÉMON CARD GUIDE
How to identify a Pokémon card
Cards with the same Pokémon name can have many different printings. The collector number and set information usually provide the strongest confirmation.
Details to capture
- Card name and language.
- Collector number, including the number after the slash.
- Set symbol or set code.
- Rarity mark, foil pattern, and special treatment.
- Copyright year and information on the back when needed.
Why the exact printing matters
Reverse holo, illustration rare, promotional, first-edition, stamped, alternate-art, and other treatments can look similar in a quick photograph but trade at different prices.
